Rare Occurrence of an Epithelioid Leiomyosarcoma in a Uterine Leiomyoma

چکیده
Leiomyosarcoma of the uterus is a malignant tumor arising from the smooth muscle of the uterus. It is a rare tumor with an incidence as low as 2%-5% of all uterine malignancies. Besides the conventional type, one of the important variants includes the epithelioid leiomyosarcoma which is by itself a rare subtype of leiomyosarcoma. The precise diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma is essential since it has an aggressive behaviour. We present a rare case of Leiomyosarcoma of the epithelioid variant arising in a leiomyoma.

Epithelioid leiomyosarcoma of uterine cervix: A case report with immunohistochemical study
Primary epithelioid leiomyosarcoma of uterine cervix (UC) has rarely been reported. A 90-year-old woman presented abnormal uterine bleedings. Colposcopy revealed erosions of cervix, and biopsy was taken. It showed proliferation of atypical spindle and epithelioid cells with hyperchromatic nuclei and prominent nucleoli. Mitotic figures including atypical mitosis were noted. The histological feat...
متن کاملSpontaneous Uterine Perforation Secondary to Leiomyosarcoma Arising in a Uterine Leiomyoma
Histogenesis of uterine leiomyosarcoma has been controversial. It is generally believed that uterine leiomyosarcomas arise de novo, rather than from any precursor lesions. We report an unusual case of spontaneous rupture of leiomyosarcoma arising in pre-existing calcified uterine leiomyoma, which has been monitored over the years after menopause. This case also suggests that spontaneous intrape...

Schwannomas are rare tumors derived from Schwann cells, which form the neural sheath. Gastrointesinal schwannomas are rare and most of them originate in the stomach or the small intestine. Schwannomas of the colon are extremely rare. Few case reports have desc...
متن کاملTwo cases of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor of the uterus: clinical, radiological and pathological diagnostic challenge
BACKGROUND Perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) is a rare subtype of mesenchymal origin tumor composed of epithelioid cells which exhibits immunohistochemical co-expressions of melanocytic markers and smooth muscle markers. CASE PRESENTATION In the first case, malignant uterine PEComa with vaginal and multiple lung metastasis was misdiagnosed preoperatively as uterine leiomyosarcoma d...
